  • While voters all across the country today are showing up to have their voice heard, yesterday was the day to cast your vote in the 2018 TWHS Mock Midterm Election. Much attention has been given to the idea of a “blue wave” or an overwhelming turnout among Democratic supporters. However, experts have also pointed to recent events – from the Kavanaugh nomination to the refocused attention on immigration – as ways to rally Republican support. Well, the results are officially in! It turns out that the Blue Wave did indeed come to Thomas Worthington. In both of our statewide races, the Democratic candidates won. Richard Cordray was selected as the next Governor of Ohio with 71% of the vote. Incumbent Sherrod Brown holds on to his seat with 90% of the vote. In Thomas’ own 12th district democrat, Danny O’Connor beat out Troy Balderson, winning 80%. TWHS students and staff overwhelmingly supported amending the state constitution through Issue 1 to reduce penalties for drug-related crimes. Finally, we have our school bond and levy issues. Cards overwhelming showed their love for their school district with both Issue 9 and 10 passing with 94% and 80% of the vote respectively.  Many thanks to those who showed up to vote and practice the important duty of voting. No matter your political party or affiliation, if you have the opportunity to vote today please do. Not everyone is lucky enough to have that right. No matter the results of this mock election or today’s actual election, carry yourself today and all days with the dignity that reflects the greatness of this nation.
