As TWHS seniors are getting ready to move on with their lives they still have many milestones left in high school. Alongside Prom, Graduation and Commitment day, there’s one more age old tradition that the school isn’t so keen on: Senior tag. This year participation for the tournament has skyrocketed with a record 24 teams in the bracket this year making it one for the books.
Senior tag is a game where students get into groups of six and pay $10 per person to enter a bracket in order to compete against each other. Students try to shoot others with water guns in order to get them out, the people with the team with the most students left at the end of the week move on. Some rules include immunity when you’re naked and safe spaces at school.
Although the game is designed for fun there are many consequences that come with playing. Senior Lily Cunningham remarks about her trouble managing the game amongst school.
“I always have to think about what I’m doing and if there’s going to be people outside of my house, the idea seems fun but sometimes it’s stressful and I don’t want to let down my team!” Other senior students are having fun playing.
“I think it’s so fun. I get to hang out with my friends and joke around with everyone in my grade. It gives people something to do and a way to work together,” says Senior Najala Asadi-Hill.
Junior Lily McAlister likes watching all the drama unfold, “I love keeping up with the Instagram Page, and I even saw someone outside my house!” Although the game gives everyone a way to pass time before graduation, teachers are warning students about the consequences.
“Be careful,” principal Pete Scully wrote in a message to seniors last week “Be safe. Don’t risk your future or someone else’s in an effort to win a game.”
