The Thomas Worthington High School baseball team has officially launched into its 2025 season, and the momentum is already building. With a blend of experienced leadership, rising talent, and a focus on chemistry, the team is aiming high and working hard to achieve a standout season.
From the first day of practice back in the fall, the Cardinals have made it clear: they’re not just here to play, they’re here to compete. Under the guidance of their coaching staff, the players have been putting in the work with daily practices focused on fundamentals, game strategy, and physical conditioning.
“Our off-season is a lot of lifting. We make it a priority to come into the season as strong and fit as we can. So once the weather is nice, we can be ready for the field,” explains senior PO (pitcher only), Paxton Bohnert.
But it’s not all about drills and reps. The team kicked off the season with a spring training trip to Tennessee, which served not only as a competitive warm-up but also as a powerful team bonding experience. Players had the opportunity to face out-of-state opponents while building a close connection off the field, laying the groundwork for a united and focused group moving forward.
“The spring break trips are awesome. Every year it is super fun and definitely something to look forward to,” says sophomore shortstop, Zane Graven. “We took a 6-7 hour bus ride to Tennessee. Right as we got on the bus, we were playing Euchre, listening to music, and just overall bonding and having fun as a team. It definitely clicked. We didn’t have any games the first couple days, so we got a lot of time to really bond and have fun. This improved our team chemistry, and when it came to game time on Friday and Saturday, we played extremely well going 2-0.”
Junior second baseman, Lucas King even shared that there is a drastic difference in the team dynamic before and after the trip.
The team is looking to build on last year’s progress and is entering this season with a renewed sense of purpose. With a balanced roster that includes seasoned veterans and promising underclassmen, the Cardinals are preparing to make a statement in their conference. However, this season looks a little different for the team. After losing a large portion of their team in the 2024 graduating class, there have been some adjustments to be made.
“It for sure feels different. Losing 17 seniors completely changes the whole team, and almost our whole roster is new players. With that being said, some people needed to step up and fill that leadership role,” says Graven. “We stick together as a team through ups and downs, and everyone on the team is positive. It is a very fun team to be around, and I can confidently say I’m friends with everyone on the team.”
Key matchups on the schedule include several heated rivalries and tough league contests, but the team is ready for the challenge. As the season unfolds, fans can expect a team that plays with passion, discipline, and a deep sense of pride in representing Thomas Worthington.
“Tdub baseball is an organization that benefits its members not only in the aspect of baseball, but it also gives them the opportunity to be part of a community,” states King. “Tdub baseball has allowed me to spend hours with my three closest friends and make memories by playing baseball for a team that cares about each other, which is what Tdub baseball is all about.”
Whether it’s the crack of the bat, a diving catch in the outfield, or the energy in the dugout, Thomas Worthington baseball is back and they’re ready to make this season one to remember.
