Cardinal Day is an annual end of the year celebration here at Thomas Worthington. There are many activities such as Super Games, yard games, and a dunk tank. There is free food and students get out of class early to be able to enjoy this fun day. 300 Dilly Bars, 200 T-shirts, 2,000 pieces of pizza, these are some of the crazy benefits that this offers to students for just showing up.
This offers students a great opportunity to share one of their last moments with all of their peers at Thomas Worthington all in one place. There are not many events throughout the year that offer this, giving students a sweet goodbye and send off.
Eva Harris is class historian for the senior class and reflects on the heavy preparation that this event demands to be successful. There are many aspects that go into planning such as being able to secure the vendors that will be present, along with meeting expectations of different activities that are available at Cardinal Day. There is also planning for any clubs that want to attend and anything that teachers want to promote or show off anything as the year comes to an end.
“Cardinal day is a fun school event with lots of games and activities to take your mind off exams and make some more memories before school ends”. Harris said.
Collin Chase is the senior class president and has been for all 4 years of his high school career. It is easy to say that Collin has a lot of experience with planning Cardinal Day.
“The hardest thing we have to do is plan when it will be”. Chase said.
They have to plan this date so far into the future due to them needing to notify sports and
facilities so that they can plan for it accordingly. Each class is given the responsibility of planning a special activity, thus giving the students the power to be able to make Cardinal Day their own.
“It’s a way for people from all classes to get together and celebrate their school as one”. Chase said.
This type of event and planning that goes into it is truly special and one of a kind. Schools like Worthington Kilbourne do not have an event that is purely made for and by students, go cards!
“Thomas Worthington students are special”, stated Chase.
In the end, Cardinal Day is more than just a fun break from classes and exams. It is a tradition that brings students together to celebrate their school community and create lasting memories before the year comes to a close. Through the hard work of student leaders and volunteers, the event continues to showcase the spirit and pride of Thomas Worthington. From games and food to time spent with friends, Cardinal Day gives students a memorable send-off and reminds everyone what it means to be a Cardinal.
