At Thomas Worthington High School, the 2026 Track season is underway, bringing athletes new goals and even more challenges. As the spring season begins, athletes and coaches are preparing for a competitive year filled with growth, leadership, and opportunity. Among the many athletes who run are upperclassmen and lowerclassmen who are looking to make the most of their last season.
Senior thrower Adam Tanner, who joined the team during his junior year, reflected on how welcoming the program was when he first joined the team.
“It was easy to get accustomed to everything, and everyone was nice to me when I started,” Tanner said. “All the throwers are great people and helped me when I started.”
His experience highlights just how supportive the environment is with the program, something that continues to motivate athletes as they all work towards their goals.
Like many athletes, Tanner has high expectations for the season and hopes to compete at a high level.
“To go to as many invitationals as I can,” Tanner said.
However, he also acknowledged the challenges that come with the improvement of track and field.
“For throwing specifically, it is really easy to get stuck on the same distance over and over again, and that can be a challenge that makes you want to quit,” Tanner added.
Hope Adams, another senior athlete on the team, has also faced challenges while balancing leadership responsibilities and personal performance. Adams plans to continue her track career at Newberry College and is focused on finishing her High School Career strong.
“This year I would like to PR in the open 100 and open 200 as well as long jump,” Adams said.
She also shared her excitement for the season ahead of her, especially when it comes to competing in the big meets.
“This year, assuming we make it to state, I am so excited to be back at the OSU track,” said Adams.
Along with her excitement, Adams noted that leadership has been one of her biggest challenges.
“The biggest challenge for me this season has been finding a balance between being a leader on the team and being productive for myself,” she said. “ In track, you always have to put the team first and doing that while also working on my own personal events has been my biggest struggle.”
Looking ahead, Adams is especially excited for one of the most anticipated meets of the season.
“This year I am most excited to run against Kilbourne. Not only is it our rival meet but it’s also our senior night where we get to pick any event we want to do,” she said.
As the 2026 track season continues, athletes at Thomas Worthington are focused on improving, competing, and making lasting memories. With strong team support, personal goals, and a competitive schedule ahead, this season is shaping up to be an exciting one for the Cardinals.
