On April 26th, Thomas Worthington celebrated World Heritage Day. The event was held in the new building cafeteria and was open for about half of the school day. Students would be able to purchase tickets to use at the many booths across the cafeteria, and try food from many different cultures. Sam Piloseno, one of the many students who attended, has been going to this event for four years now and believes it is the best way this school shares its diversity and culture.
“Yeah, I mean it’s always been a favorite event that we have here for me,” said Piloseno. “I like to be able to just like hang out with friends and like go around and try the foods they have. I think my favorite one is these chocolate balls that the Brazil booth has every year. They are by far my favorite.”
Another student, Aiden Mobley, shared his opinion on the event.
“I think that it’s a nice way to learn about other cultures, even if you don’t get any of the food,” said Mobley. “It’s sometimes fun if you don’t want to get tickets for food to just read the boards and talk to the people about the culture and stuff, and they play some music sometimes from the country theyre from. I think the event as a whole is a great way for our class to learn about each other and stuff.”
The event, while being focused on the food, does have a lot of other interesting things, as Mobley mentioned. The students who make the booths for the event bring a trifold of information for the event for students to take away more than just the food and good times, and to really learn about the culture and who the students are representing.
International Day has been a tradition at TWHS for many years now, and it has left many students with a better understanding of diversity and cultures outside of their own, making it a day for everyone at the school to come together and have some good food from around the world
