The 2020s are less than halfway over and already have many unique trends. One that has shifted several times are water bottle trends. From Hydroflasks to Stanleys to Owalas and more, there are so many options for people to choose from. The students at Thomas Worthington use a variety of these brands. Some choose to follow the trends while others stick to a brand or don’t use a particular brand at all. Everyone has a different reason for choosing their water bottle.
Four of the seven students interviewed own and use Owalas. Owalas are one of the more recent water bottle trends and many students can be seen with them at TWHS. Ivy Kleinman owns not one but two Owalas. However despite being on-trend, Kleinman prefers to only replace her water bottle when it breaks. She hasn’t replaced hers for a year.
Emily Grove replaces hers just as often but does so out of boredom. She likes how it “sometimes goes with [her] outfit.”
Another Owala owner, Lily McAlister follows the trends and replaces her water bottle when something is trending. She replaced hers for her birthday earlier this year. Three out of four Owala users mentioned the lack of spilling as a positive for the water bottle.
Before Owalas, Stanleys were very popular. Even now, they still have plenty of people who use them. “It keeps your drink cold,” Stanley owner Mia Dao comments. Dao never replaces her water bottle and has gone without replacing it for the last two years.
Meanwhile, Stella Whitam hasn’t gotten a new water bottle since 2021. Also a Hydro Flask owner, Witman mentioned how while Hyrdoflasks keep drinks cold, Stanleys keep them colder.
Some students use brands other than the popular Stanleys and Owalas. As stated earlier, Whitham owns and uses a Hydro Flask. She’s collected them since 2019 when they were getting popular.
However, Finn Rubin doesn’t use any of the three brands. He uses water bottles with screw-on tops. He replaces his water bottle every two weeks because it seems gross to him. He likes how they’re “easy to open and close.”
Kids at Thomas have many different water bottle preferences. Most use an Owala or a Stanley, which are both popular right now. Some students like Witman still use a Hydro Flask and others like Rubin don’t use the popular brands at all. Every kind offers positives. Owalas help prevent spills and Stanleys are good at keeping water cold. With how fast trends can change, who knows what type will rise to fame next?
