During the school day, there can be numerous unexpected challenges, so being prepared for the inevitable is always important. The kind of backpack you carry is prominent within itself, but something that has also been helpful for many students over the years is bringing a smaller bag within their backpacks filled with the everyday essentials. These bags commonly include feminine products, gum, hand sanitizer, a hair brush, lotion, etc.
Of course, you can’t forget your daily school supplies like your Chromebook/laptop, pens, books, etc. But the most important thing to have is the bag itself. You want to have something that will fit and store all your supplies nicely, and also be comfortable to carry around throughout the day.
“I’ve always chosen a JanSport backpack every year. They are waterproof and they don’t break or rip easily,” says Senior Avery Clowes. The brand has been around since the late 1960’s. Jansport basically created the school day backpack. Students in the early 1970’s would walk around campus clutching their books and things needed for class. Until students at the University of Washington discovered JanSport hiking packs and started using them to carry their books in the rain.
Another thing that matters during the school day is what you have in your bag. Senior Stella Whitham has been carrying the necessities since she was a freshman. “I have lip products, makeup, pads, and lotion. I usually end up needing at least one of the things in my bag everyday.” This collection of items is minimal compared to what other students consider their necessities as.
For another Senior Finn Rubin, he does not seem to care as much about being prepared for the school day. “I just bring Chapstick and a water bottle and that’s all I really need throughout the day.”
Each student is going to come across different challenges in their day so it can be important to be prepared for anything, not only just for yourself but possibly for a friend that forgot something that day. You never know what your day will bring so remember to have things for all circumstances or challenges that you may come across.
