As Halloween creeps up, the pressure is on to make plans for the spookiest night of the year. Whether it’s passing out candy, trick-or-treating, or going to a costume party, there are lots of ways to spend your night ghouling around.
Although many people still enjoy a night on the street full of trick-or-treating, senior Finn Rubin hasn’t gone since 7th grade. He prefers to spend this chilling night out with his friends. Rubin hasn’t dressed up for a long time.
“I had an awesome scarecrow costume when I was in 4th grade,” he says. “Now I just prefer to pass out candy. Sometimes we pass out King-sized bars and the kids really love it.”
Perhaps the festive spirit from his youth will carry over this year as he and his friends take on Halloween night.
Halloween last year brought unexpected snow, but based on the weather now, winter is not likely to make any haunting appearances.
Lily McAlister, a senior at TWHS, plans to go out this Halloween season. She occasionally dresses up for Halloween to get into the spirit. McAlister intends to go to a costume party this Spooky Season and potentially hand out candy in her neighborhood. Another Senior, Emily Grove, still dresses up for this wicked day.
“I still dress up every year, it’s a tradition in my family,” she says. “Even my parents do.”
Grove is planning on going out with friends and to haunted houses.
“This Halloween I’m going to Fear Columbus with my girlfriend,” she explains. “And then possibly bringing my little brother trick or treating.”
Grove stopped trick or treating two years ago because it stopped being fun, but she remembers her favorite costume from the last time she went out: Britney Spears.
Alaina Walter, also a senior, is going against the trend and will be staying in this Halloween night. However, she would still be open to a ghostly get-together with friends.
“Whatever happens, happens, if there’s a party I’ll go, but I’ll for sure be handing out candy,” Walter says.
Like many of her classmates, Walter stopped trick-or-treating in middle school. Her favorite costume from her trick-or-treating years was her second-grade Elsa costume, as it was the last one her grandmother made before she officially retired from costume making.
A teacher and coach at TWHS, Mr. Cox, is a big-time Halloween fan. He dresses up in costume at school every Halloween and believes that the school community does a nice job celebrating the ghoulish day. Cox has dressed up in costume numerous times and couldn’t pick just one favorite.
“Teddy Roosevelt, Magnum P.I., and Indiana Jones …. all have been very fun!!!” Cox says about his previous costumes.
Cox loves the Halloween school spirit but also has his own spooky rituals at home.
“We have a tradition of having the entire Cox Crew over,” he explains. “We pass out candy while we eat sloppy joes and smores!”
Whether you decide to go trick-or-treating, go to a costume party, or just cozy up with a good scary movie, this Halloween is going to be spooktacular!
