The Thomas Worthington field hockey team took home a win at the 2024 state championship. Coach Terri Simonetti-Frost has led the girls to victory for the past three consecutive state championships with high hopes to continue the tradition in the 2025 season. After much hard work and dedication to field hockey, the team battled many challenges but reached their goals together.
“TWFH is something that you can’t even put into words,” states junior Meredith Estepp. “The sisterhood is completely unmatched and it’s the kind of thing you have to experience to completely understand it.”
The team wrapped up their season with a 5-0 score against Shaker Heights. The girls made history by becoming the only school in Ohio to 3-Peat not once, but twice. Thomas Worthington won the state championship in 2015 and carried on through 2016 and 2017. They picked up the state championship trophy again in 2022 and have been on a state-winning streak ever since.
“My teammates are usually the ones motivating me to look towards states and to reach our goal of winning the state championship and be the best we can,” says Junior Sophia Borghese. “We all love each other and play for one another to not disappoint our teammates.”
The Thomas Worthington field hockey team has shown their hard work on and off the field. In the classroom, the team is thriving. In the 2024 season, all athletes in the field hockey program were granted the title of Scholar-Athlete.
Coach Simonetti-Frost has made such an impact on her athletes. She has provided the girls with the confidence and skills to proudly wear TWFH on their sleeves. Coach Simonetti-Frost will send three of her athletes in the class of 2024 to continue their athletic careers as D1 field hockey players. Rowan Casey – Ohio University, Julie Conroy – Kent State University, and Emmy Wellejus – Michigan State University. Borghese has already announced her verbal commitment to play field hockey at Miami University. Borghese will start her college field hockey career in 2026.
“I love all of the seniors so much and will miss you guys even more,” says Jaidyn Gussler to the class of 2025. “I cannot wait to see where your lives take you.”
TWHS Field Hockey has created a living legacy at Thomas Worthington. The inspiring team truly represents pride, love, and passion for the sport.
“TWFH has impacted me so much. I’ve created so many meaningful friendships that will last for life,” reflects Gussler. “I’ve learned how to become a better person, a better communicator, and how to be a team player.”
Estepp would like to close out with this message to her fellow teammates: “Playing with these girls has been the most special experience in my life. You guys have made history on paper but nothing compares to the legacy you have left on the TWFH sisterhood that will continue to live on. LONG LIVE TWFH!”
