Have you ever wanted to paint a parking spot? Now’s your chance! The PTSO Cards Care Campaign has launched an exciting fundraiser, offering winners the opportunity to customize a parking spot in the student or staff lot—or snag a $25 or $100 gift card to a store or restaurant of their choice. This initiative is just one way the Thomas Worthington High School PTSO encourages our school community, complementing their ongoing efforts to recognize students through Cardinal of the Month, support academic success with Cocoa and Cram study sessions, and show appreciation for staff by providing meals during conference weeks.
So how do you enter/win? In order to participate, you need people to donate on your behalf. Ask friends, family, neighbors, and anyone who cares about TWHS or would like to donate. For every $25 donation, one raffle entry will be made in your name. To be eligible for the parking spot raffle you must have a parking pass AND you must raise at least $100 dollars to be eligible for the parking spot in the front staff parking lot.
The PTSO’s goal is to raise $10,000 from this fundraiser, which would go towards events like cocoa and cram and staff meals.
Senior, Meredith Button, loves the idea of the fundraiser. However, she has some concerns.
“ First off, it is quite expensive for a raffle,” Buttons says. “Not a lot of families can afford to raise that much no matter how much they would like a parking spot.”
Button believes that parking spaces are becoming more scarce with the ongoing construction, and it’ll be hard to designate them to specific students despite their attendance on that day.
“Although this is a great opportunity for artists to bring more color to the school,” Button expresses. “I would love to see more representation for things that don’t require money to be involved.”
Button acknowledges the fundraiser’s potential while advocating for more inclusive opportunities. “I would love to see more representation for artists in the future as well that have less to do with money and more to do with our small achievements,” Button says. “These are great opportunities for artists as well as being able to give back to our community.”
Despite her reservations, Button plans to participate, hoping to secure a designated parking spot for her senior year.
Principal Mr. Almanson emphasizes the PTSO’s innovative approach. “Our Parent Teacher Student Organization developed this idea after recognizing how important and attractive prime parking spots can be to students,” he explains. The campaign has been promoted through multiple channels, including Flock Talk, social media, emails, and building posters.
While students will have creative freedom in designing their parking spot, the school maintains guidelines to ensure all designs remain school-appropriate and non-offensive.
This fundraiser not only offers a unique opportunity for student expression but also supports valuable school community programs. Start collecting donations from now till November 29th for your chance to win one of numerous prizes!
