The new year can bring many changes. Whether it’s daily life, school, or work, new things are inevitable. But something that continuously changes every year is Fashion. Fashion is a powerful way people can express themselves, and show who they are. Each year brings a new wave of trends. These changes in trends are caused by multiple different factors. Some being social media, influencers, celebrities, and global events such as the Grammys, Golden Globes, and VMAs.
The first thing that is staying in 2025 is the color brown. Glamour.com describes it as,”Way softer and prettier than black.” It was also named color of the year in 2024. Senior Patrick Gallaugher would describe his style as indie vintage. He wears a lot of darker colors such as greens, mute yellows, and browns.
“I think earth tones are going to be a lot more popular this year.” says Gallaugher
Fashion will be looking into the future this year with the Y3K aesthetic that began in mid-2024 and has no plans on slowing down anytime soon. Y3K short for the year 3000 is a futuristic and sci-fi look. This style has a color palette dominated by blacks, silvers, and neons. It pushes existing boundaries and helps to embrace the unknowns of the future, all while combining virtual fantasies with reality.
An extremely popular color in 2024 that will be phasing out this year is Cherry Red. This color is going to be less used in clothing but still relevant in hand bags and shoes.
Cowboy boots also dominated last fall, this year footwear will be getting a lot less heavy. Cowboy boots have a long history with their classic design and durable appeal. But, like many fashion items their popularity cycles through periods of heightened celebrity use. Many Taylor Swift fans wore these classic boots to her shows throughout 2023 and 2024. Yet it is safe to say fans will be seeing them a lot less in 2025.
The last trend that has been a shocker to everyone that is watching its comeback is the viral Skinny Jeans. These jeans departed in the late 2010s but have been making a comeback as 2025 has begun when many TikTok users saw famous influencer Alix Earle wearing them to her NFL Dolphin boyfriend, Braxton Berrios game. Earle has since designed her own line of these classic jeans, which sold out within hours. Yet, they are not cheap going for around $130 a pair.
Fashion trends will likely see a continuation of existing styles with a focus of sustainability and individuality, blending high fashion with comfort. Many consumers will also continue to prioritize eco-friendly and ethical brands, while creating trendy looks in the process.
