Ohio State Football claimed the National Championship for the first time in ten years, closing out January with a dominant 34-23 victory over Notre Dame. This triumph highlights the team’s impressive strength and the passion of its players. But behind every successful program, there’s leadership that drives it forward. The question is, who is orchestrating this winning team.
Mark Pantoni, the General Manager of Ohio State Football, recently completed his 13th season with the program. As the head of recruitment, Pantoni plays a pivotal role in shaping the team’s future by overseeing all personnel and recruiting operations, ensuring the program remains competitive at the highest level.
“When we are recruiting an athlete, we first look at height, weight, and speed. We evaluate a lot of his film and look at a number of factors but athleticism, toughness, and production are 3 key traits,” explains Pantoni. However, physical attributes and on-field talent are just half of the equation. “We also look at their character and grades to make sure they are a good fit in the locker room.”
The team maintained steady focus as they entered the playoff season, displaying a level of concentration that was crucial to their success. Every detail was thoroughly executed, ensuring they were prepared to face the challenges ahead and ultimately secure their place at the top.
“We had a veteran group of players who had great leadership during the playoffs,” shares Pantoni. “They were a highly motivated group who wanted to finish the season with a national championship.”
Ohio State Football has crafted a team that has led them to extraordinary accomplishments. After claiming the 2024 National Championship, many are left wondering what this victory means for the program.
“It is life changing for our players to win a national championship. Some became legends in Ohio State history,” Pantoni expressed. “Winning a national championship also helps in recruiting because kids want to join programs to have an opportunity to be on a championship team.”
After their long-awaited National Championship victory, Ohio State has cemented their hard work and dedication, not only to themselves but to their widely known loyal fan base. “This win (and series of playoff wins) will never be forgotten. Ohio State fans will continue to talk about all the key moments throughout the season and in the playoffs. This win will now continue to drive the program and motivate us to go do it again,” reflects Pantoni.
