Super Bowl 2024: Chiefs vs 49ers

Does the hype merit the cost?

The 2024 Super Bowl is just around the corner premiering on Sunday, February 11th, 2024 at 6:30pm Eastern. The game will be available on various streaming services such as Fubo, Paramount+, and Youtube TV. Although this year’s super bowl has the same plan as previous years, things are looking a bit different when it comes to tickets and attendance.

Chiefs recent superstar tight-end, Travis Kelce is a part of the reason why the yearly event has blown up so much, his latest girlfriend, and famous singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift, who has been seen attending many games this season. Swift has appeared at 12 Chiefs games so far and fans are almost sure she will attend the super bowl. Especially after she was welcomed onto the field after the Chiefs beat the Ravens 17-10 this past Sunday, January 28th. The couple was seen sharing a few hugs and kisses at the Ravens stadium.

In addition to the fans buying tickets to the game in hopes of catching a glimpse of Swift, there is also a sheer demand for the most popular sports’ biggest game. But the major reason is due to the fact that tickets are usually not for sale to the public. Most of the time the NFL and its teams distribute the tickets to corporate partners and season ticket holders. With ticket prices rising by 70% since last year’s game, the average price is around $9,800 hitting record levels.

Defending Super Bowl champions, The Chiefs are headed back to the big game this year facing the San Francisco 49ers. But it’s not their first time facing them in the Super Bowl, they also played them back in 2020. The Chiefs were not doing the best in the first half of that game, but they made a comeback and ended up taking the victory with a score of 20-31. The 2020 Super Bowl was previously the most expensive game on record according to TIckPIck, with the average ticket price hovering around $6,370. Making those tickets 35% less expensive than this year’s prices.

“There’s no way they should cost $9,000 just to watch the game in person when you can watch it at home on the couch for free with your friends and family,” said junior, Isaiah Taylor

Super Bowl parties and gatherings are very popular for many Football fans. They choose to make food, wear their favorite player’s jersey, and spend time with the people they want to celebrate the big win with.

For this year’s Super Bowl, staying at home to watch the game is the cheaper option. Regardless of how much money a person may save by enjoying it from home, a trip to the Super Bowl will cost a minimum of $9,859 per person. Something to think about as you eat popcorn while watching the game from the comfort of your own couch this season.
