This year’s spring sports seniors have been through it all, a normal season, a canceled season, and a COVID season as they round out their high school career this upcoming season. We interviewed this year’s seniors to see how they feel about their upcoming seasons and reflect on their past seasons and accomplishments.
Girls lacrosse senior Ella Wince looks back at her past 4 years on the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team, she recalls her favorite memory as scoring a hat trick against Dublin Coffman in her Junior year. Ella is looking forward to playing this last season along with her best friends, and will continue onto The Ohio State University and hopes to play Club Lacrosse there. Ella says, “I am looking forward to a new environment and new friends”. Another senior on the Girls Lacrosse team, Josie Tinnerello, recalls her favorite memory as winning First Team OCC Junior year or traveling to a teammates lake house for freshman year team bonding. Girls Lacrosse is excited for the upcoming season under new head coach Kendall Horner.
Baseball senior Caleb Kirker is looking forward to playing his final year of baseball and going to the Roosters after games with all of his teammates. His proudest and favorite accomplishment has been winning Offensive Player of the Year his junior season. Caleb does not plan to continue his athletics in college, except he says he hopes to “mess around and play on club teams when he can”.
Girls Track senior, Leila Boussedra is excited to get a chance to compete and see what she can do this year. She also mentioned that she is psyched to bond with the girls on the team and create a positive environment for the underclassmen. Leila’s favorite memory is jumping into a pond with the postseason team near Hilliard Davidson High School after they ran in the state championship meet last year. Leila plans to continue her academic and athletic career at Ohio University where she will be running Cross Country and Track. There at Ohio University Leila is excited to meet new people and get serious training.
Down on the flats, Softball senior Emma Mcneily is looking forward to stepping up as a leader and making connections with underclassmen. Emma is also excited to build the program up and finish strong as this is her last season after playing an astounding 14 years of softball. Her favorite accomplishment is helping to contribute to a good, healthy, and friendly environment after a losing freshman year, and getting their sophomore taken away. Emma says, “I wish I could continue to play softball, but I fear I have too many injuries to continue as successfully as I wish”.
We wish all athletes good luck in this upcoming season and hope to see all of the seniors have a great season.
