Winter is a magical time! There are loads of fun things to do this year… in Ohio… in the freezing cold. Hones though, this winter can be a real wonderland with fun right here in Worthington! Here are some ideas for you:

Nothing to do on your Friday or Saturday nights? Why not go support our very own Tdub hockey team and catch a game at the Ice Works right here in Worthington? Even if hockey isn’t your preferred sport to watch, the games are a pretty great time.

“I wasn’t a hockey fan until I went to the game against Kilbourne last year,” says senior Naj. “Some kid brought a fish and threw it over the glass onto the ice.” Nothing like a good old hometown rivalry match. Aside from the fish, there’s also catchy music, and if you’re lucky, a fight might happen. Hockey games are quite the show!

If you feel more like staying in, why not have a cozy movie night? Get your friends or family together to watch your favorite holiday classics! “Christmas Vacation is the only right answer in the Kociba house,” says senior Josh Kociba. Throw on a pair of pajamas, make hot cocoa, and pop some popcorn!

Another at-home activity, or contest if you’re into competition, is building gingerbread houses. Get creative with decorations and enjoy some sweet treats while you’re at it. Although, enjoy a little too much and you might end up with no roof… or no door… and gingerbread man with its head bit off. But remember, the camera eats first. Get a picture to capture the fun!

Another great one is thrifting, especially in the winter. There are two thrift stores not too far from home, (the new Goodwill down High St. and the Worthington Thrift Shop), as well as all over Columbus! This time of year, finding cozy outfits to keep you warm in Ohio is a must. “I like to find crew necks and sweat pants in the winter, especially the ones with the cute embroidery,” says junior Lily McAlister. You never know what you might find!

Now last, but not least is little Old Worthington. Grab a drink at Highline Coffee Co., take a seat in The Old Bag of Nails or Dewy’s Pizza, and treat yourself to a tasty meal. Afterward, why not take a walk to admire the holiday spirit Worthington most certainly has? This could be a fun little photoshoot moment… Right under the doorway beside Highline, is the cutest Gingerbread House set up. Take a look at seniors Abby and Angelina smiling under it in the featured photos!

Now that you have a list of fun things to do this winter, and no excuses not to, go out and do them! Make plans with old friends, or use these as an opportunity to make new ones. Or hey, maybe you want to take a special someone on a date. These all double as lovely ideas, but what do I know? Remember, our time off for winter break is limited, so might as well go out and enjoy it.
