As the school year comes to an end, the class of 2026 prepares to say goodbye to the halls of Thomas Worthington Highschool.
Students often have mixed feelings about graduation. While the seniors may be excited to graduate and go off into the world, younger students might struggle to accept their friends graduating. There are so many different schools or professions that make it difficult to reconnect with friends who might still be in high school.
“One of my close friends is going into the military soon after summer and graduation, it’s very nerve racking,” Says Olivia K. “It’s also scary to think that I won’t talk to some other seniors I do now because they are leaving.”
It’s hard to let people go, especially those who are close to you. Graduation is a major life transition and it’s scary not only for the seniors, but also the younger students.
Juniors also might have a hard time with graduation due to stepping up as a senior. It can be hard to accept that you are growing up and soon will have big responsibilities like owning a home or buying a car.
“Im definitely nervous with moving on to senior year due to the fact i know ill be graduating. And honestly it will be a little confusing because of my regular routines.” Says Macy H
While graduation is coming up very close many Seniors have many emotions ranging from stress and excitement and the uncertainty of the future leaving school behind for once is a strange feeling and the starting of adulthood. Underclassmen and teachers also are emotional about the leaving of the graduates of Thomas Worthington students have grown close just to move on , graduation is more than a diploma it shows your growth and strength throughout all years and the beginning of the new class.
“There’s always a lot of pressure during senior year to have your future planned out,” explained a senior.
Although graduation is exciting, many seniors feel stressed trying to decide what is the best path to take after high school.
“ Graduating is just like moving forward with life and opening a new chapter with more opportunities and freedom to experience and do what you want for yourself.” Says Allison M
Also the senior said that high school has taught them many things but now it feels like stepping into a whole new different world.
Not only are students affected when seniors graduate, but teachers are impacted as well. Throughout the school year teachers spend hours walking the same hallways seeing familiar faces every day and building strong connections with their students. Teachers attend school games and events just to cheer on their students. Over time teachers create meaningful memories with their students that become an important part of their lives. Teachers always get to see their students grow and be more mature as adulthood is coming for them. Graduation is not only a huge step for seniors but also for the teachers who have made strong friendships with the students
“I feel like this every single year, I feel sad that the seniors are leaving. But this year is especially hard because I’m also leaving so I feel like this class is very special”, Said Mrs Ruiz.
As the class of 2026 prepares to leave for graduation, this marks the conclusion of all the school years and the beginning of responsibility, and opportunity. Although the worries of what’s to come after school will still be stressful for many to step into adulthood like normal, they are equally excited about leaving high school to pursue their dreams or goals/visions. Radiation also impacts teachers, families, and the younger students who have made friends with seniors over the years and even the last year. But no matter which path each person chooses, the lessons learned, friends made, and the memories that will be left at Thomas Worthington will still always influence their lies after walking across the stage to receive that diploma.
