The beginning of December is a hard time for students at Thomas Worthington. They have just returned to school after a long Thanksgiving break, and getting back into the routine is not easy. Mornings become a struggle again as cars take forever to defrost, and the wind that once felt cold now feels like a harsh wall of freezing air. But after coming back and only having four more weeks of school, students will finally have something to look forward to, winter break!
For most students, winter break is the best time of the year. It’s the time for holidays, time with family, and many days away from school. There are also many traditions students look forward to each year, and everyone celebrates in their own way. Along with the excitement of the season, winter break gives most students a chance to reset and enjoy time off before the next semester begins.
For some students, traditions are a big part of how they spend their break. Isidora Diaz, a senior at Thomas Worthington, stays busy during the holidays with performances.
“Typically every year I perform during the holidays at some capacity,” Diaz says. “Sometimes it is dancing in the nutcracker with my ballot academy, and sometimes it is performing in a musical,” said Diaz.
While some students stay busy with performances and activities, others prefer to keep things more relaxed. Jayden Kovach, a Thomas Worthington junior and a member of Theatre and E-Sports, shared what his winter breaks are usually like.
“Other than Christmas I usually hangout with friends or stay home and do my own thing,” Kovach says. “We do not usually go on vacation, all we really do is hang out around home. I love winter break because it’s the longest and I don’t have anything school wise to do. So it’s nice to catch up on doing my own thing.”
No matter how students choose to spend their time, whether they’re performing, spending time with family, or just relaxing at home, winter break is something many look forward to. With exams finally over and the new semester not starting yet, students at Thomas Worthington appreciate the break and the chance to relax and recharge.
I think we are all thinking what Thomas Worthington senior Ashton Hoke is thinking, “Hell ya, winter break!”Â
