The girls basketball team at Thomas Worthington High School has built its 2025-2026 season around trust, resilience and strong relationships. While the cardinals did face many challenges throughout the season, their chemistry has defined their growth on and off the court.
On the court, communication and teamwork lead the way.
“Its all about working together and having trust in one another,” says senior Guard Olivia (Liv) Stewart. “Communication is big for us especially in defensive moments. Offensively we make sure to share the ball and create opportunities to help lead us to a win.”
Fellow senior guard Liz Rohrbacher explains how the girls know eachothers strengths and weaknesses, causing them to play really well together.
“We love eachtother while we play and we love playing with eachother,” shares Rohrbacher.
Freshman forward Izzy Luca adds that energy has also been a key factor for the team’s success this season.
“During practices and games I feel like we’re all super hype. I also feel like we all give great intensity especially in close games,” Luca says.
Sophomore forward, Zoe Fourman explains that while they have a lot of chemistry on the court, the girls are sure to carry that same energy off the court as well.
“Our team is super close. We are always together constanlty laughing and having fun,” says Fourman.
For Luca, a freshman on varsity, she explains that basketball has provided her with some of her closest friends, all from different grades.
“We are all like eachothers best friends. Everyone was super welcoming which was really great,” Luca adds. Stewart keeps it simple by stating how TWHS Girls Baksetball is her second family.
Mid way through the season the girls struggled with a scoring droubt. Fourman noted that the team struggled with consistency throughout the season, however breaking the losing streak was a turning point for the team. Despite close losses, the team kept moving forward and stayed positive.
Preparation has stayed steady all season. While they do the standard review of scouting reports and film watching, the girls credit Coach Sydney to their success. Coach Sydney joined the coaching staff this season and instantly changed the game for the girls.
“What changed how we play was Coach Syd and how she always prepares us and makes our defense key to our game,” shares Fourman.
Rohrbacher echoes these thoughts and adds, “Coach Sydney did a great job helping us understand who we played, how we needed to play them and what we needed to do to compete in our games.”
With goals of limiting opponents defensively and always staying true to the morals of the team, the Thomas Worthington Cardinals finished their season with a 12-13 record.
As Stewart reflected on her final season at TDUB, she wanted to make sure that her team knew how proud she was of them and she hopes the team will continue to keep building what has been started. Through trust, friendship and perseverance the Thomas Worthington Girls basketball team has proven that it’s not all about the numbers put on the board, but playing for eachother and being united makes all the difference.
