Roses are red, violets are blue, but wait do I even like you?

February 14th is a routine day in history filled with chocolate, cupid, love, and even hatred…a day simply dedicated to loving another individual… is it vital to have a date on the calendar?

Senior Ryleigh Sharp does not have the same traditional view as most high school students on the day dedicated to love,

“I think Valentine’s Day is nice because The Bachelor comes out, and I enjoy the color pink but other than that I think it’s overhyped and a holiday made for consumerism,” Says Sharp.

Although Sharp isn’t a perpetrator of Valentine’s Day other seniors have turned the day into something more than for a significant other.

Senior Naj Asadi-Hill, “I think its fun and theres lots of way to celebrate, you don’t need a significant other to enjoy it. You can do galentine’s day with your girlfriends!” Asadi-Hill finds joy in spending the day with the ones she loves most, her girls! Another senior Jack Murphy finds the day a bit bothersome throughout his youth, but now in his senior year is finding appreciation and value for it.

Senior Jack Murphy “When I was younger I went through a phase not understanding why you need to dedicate a day to love, but now looking back at it, in my senior year I think it’s sweet to dedicate a day to your loved ones. It’s all about perspective.” Murphy plans include taking a special someone to a upscale restaurant and feasting on chocolate covered fruit of various types. With a few different views of the upcoming holiday, we have yet to hear the commonly expected view and opinion on the day of love. Senior Liam Keasel, feels passionately about the holiday and cannot seem to wait!

“You know I love, love, and I just think its wonderful to be able to bring people together young and old to celebrate love, it’s truly wonderful, some could say its the best holiday.” Keasel says. Although Keasel may not have always felt so passionately about this day of love he cherishes so much, he certainly has learned to find the emotion for it; his senior year.

With the class of ‘24 graduating and fewer holidays to celebrate with your friends and loved ones, enjoy the last few! Like several seniors have already suggested, you don’t need a significant other to enjoy your holidays!
